Eggspectation
220 YONGE STREET // FINANCIAL DISTRICT // TORONTO
A pretty large restaurant for a breakfast joint, Eggspectation has a few locations around the GTA. The one we visited is located at street level of the Eaton Centre, accessible from Yonge Street. Being graphic designers, it’s our custom to take a long hard look at the overall design. When we noticed the logo here while waiting for our food, we had a very confused conversation about it… something about the weird jester-thing makes you want to pull out your phone and google the significance (What does it MEAN??) but clearly we didn’t, because we still have no idea what it’s all about…. Somebody, enlighten us please!

Over Easy
56 YONGE STREET // FINANCIAL DISTRICT // TORONTO
With a couple locations around Toronto’s downtown, Over Easy is — just as it sounds — a classic breakfast restaurant. The one we went to at King and Yonge is oddly located inside the Hotel Victoria, so don’t be alarmed when you end up in a hotel lobby first. With all the breakfast classics and a list of breakfast specials too, Over Easy has a menu you could spend some time with.

Fynn’s of Temple Bar
489 KING STREET WEST // KING WEST // TORONTO
Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Well… belated St. Patrick’s. Fynn’s of Temple Bar is a classic Irish pub on King West.

BLD
36 TORONTO STREET // ADELAIDE + YONGE // TORONTO
The elusive BLD. It took us three attempts to finally eat breakfast here because everytime we tried they happened to be closed for the holidays (oddly enough they didn’t reopen until well into January). Then, as luck would have it, I happened to eat here twice in the same week to sample their dinner fare for Winterlicious too. One of the few un-diner breakfast spots in the area, BLD is a unique space with modern lighting and chic furniture and a really interesting dining area with a black and white film silently projected on to the wall all day. For first timers, if you carry a purse they even give you a neat purse hook to hang your bag on any table as a little parting gift — a nice touch.

Insomnia
563 BLOOR STREET WEST // BLOOR + BATHURST // TORONTO
And now, by popular demand… Insomnia! When friends first heard about this potato blog of ours, probably the most common next phrase was “Have you been to Insomnia?!”
Many of you claimed they had the best home fries in town, so clearly we had to go! All we knew ahead of time was that the key to these highly coveted spuds is the “mystery sauce”. And, to give some perspective to its hyped-up awesomeness, has even been likened to crack…
